Okay this a new family favorite that happened this year. My mom is the scottish one and she firmly beleived there is no reason to change or alter our classic recipe. But my dad pushed for this idea and we have created a new tradition with these things. So we made our classic shortbread and then added a little twist to create these tasty little treats. Im pretty sure Santa would enjoy these easy little cookies as well...
1 Pound of Butter (4 Sticks)
1 Cup of Sugar
4 1/2 Cups of Flour
A Jelly of your choice
Glaze: (I Just eyeballed this, and this is approximatly what I did)
1/4 cup Powdered sugar
2tbs of Milk
Instructions: (Be sure to check out photos below)
Preheat oven to 350' F
Cream Sugar and butter until smooth
Mix in the flour a little bit at a time
When mostly mixed in Knead it with you hands on a floured counter
Then ball up small little bits of dough, set on pan then press thumb in gently.
For the jelly part, we used two spoons to help keep the amount of jelly reasonable.
once they are all ready, put in oven for about 15 minutes
Once they are out, you can drizzle glaze
This year, I sat at the kitchen table with my dad and attempted one of those Target $9 gingerbread house kits. Last year was a complete fail and I ended up eating all of the frosting and laughing with my little brother... But maybe this year will be different....Maybe...
And then the end.........
BUT WAIT! THERES MORE! It is currently standing like this. It will do...
Welcome back to 12 Days of Christmas here on allisonderosia.com ! Todays topic is a bit of a silly one but also one that makes me smile. It involves Brittish youtubers, red liptstick, and the beauty spiral my life has taken. (Sprial up or down...its yet to be decided)
Today I was putting on my makeup and once again found myself reaching for that Kate Moss Rimmel Lipstick in 107. Its the lipstick that started my beauty collection. The reason I have more makeup than I know what to do with. and also the reason why I cant stop buying makeup I DONT NEED (You feel me right?) Well this started back in Zoe Suggs Bedroom.. Well through youtube all about 3 or 4 years ago.
She wore it in a christmas video and in that moment I had to have it. I ordered it from amazon for double the price to find they actually did sell it in the united states... But I had never really been into watching youtube videos, and wasnt into the whole beauty world that lives in youtube and on blogs. Well Ever since then I take 80% of my style and beauty advice from Zoe and every christmas I remember that time just from the scent of the lipstick.
I always laugh when I see my drawer filled with so much makeup because It all started with that litle burgady booger of a lipstick that I couldnt live without all because of a british girl filming youtube videos in her basement. After buying that one lipstick I decided I needed to really invest in this whole lipstick and makeup thing and I wouldnt change a thing. Ive even added visiting Brighton to my bucket list all because of the vlogs and photos she posts and I just NEED to experience that english little sea town for myself.
So when I ask myself "How did I end up with this much makeup." I like to think back to the first christmas I found Zoe Sugg's Videos and how It is an absolute Christmas tradition for me to watch all of her videos and buy more impulse lipsticks I really dont need.
This time of year it's fun to look back at what has helped get you to where you are today. And to see the impact little decisions make on your life without you even realizing.
My great Nana (Laura Morton) is from Scotland. And when she came to America she met my great Pop who was also from Scotland. Laura made shortbread back in scotland, and continued to make it every year for her husband and then eventually made it for her kids. Now this is where my nana comes in. My nana met my pop when she was 17 and quickly fell in love, Then my pop left with the navy to go to Cuba during the cuban missle crisis. His mother then invited my nana over to teach her how to make shortbread to bring to my pop when they came to dock in Florida. So my 17 year old Nana boarded a bus in New Jersey with a tin of Shortbread under her arm and went down to Florida. And as my nana said, "The rest is history."
So here is the recipe to my families famous Scottish Shortbread.
1 Pound of butter (Four sticks)
1 Cup of Sugar
4 1/2 cups of Flour
Make sure you check out the pictures below too)
Preheat the oven to 325' F
First in a kitchen aid mixer, cream sugar and butter together.
Then add a little bit of flour into the mixer at the time until its all mixed in.
Then you need to Knead the dough all together until smooth and mixed.
After its mixed, spread the dough into a edged cookie sheet (We use an insulated pan)
Take a fork, and press its along the edges, and then insert it in rows all over the pan.
Then bake it for 30 minutes or until its a very light golden brown.
