For an early 20th birthday present, my parents bought me the most gorgeous bible I ever did see. My name is in little golden letters on the brown leather cover and I just want to show everyone. I decided that with my first "grown-up" bible I should read it a little more. So I found my way to the book of Ruth and I loved it. It talks about Naomi, who's husband died, and both of her sons as well. So she returns to her homeland where her daughter-in-law follows, insisting to remain at her side.
This struck me as so strange. Ruth had just lost her husband, and instead of going back to the home she's always known , she stays with Naomi. Whenever I got through and big life change I am so inclined to just sit in the comfort of my own room with my own thoughts and ways of thinking. However God used Ruth for something so much bigger than retreating back to her homeland. During this waiting period, she worked for Boaz, helped Naomi as she grieved, and kept steady.
So often I find myself getting bored. Bored of the daily grind, of school and work. Tired of living in suburbia Michigan. Just tired. I long for adventure and romance and all of these wonderful things and these in-between times can seem so long and boring. I find myself wishing for my future to just hurry up and get here. Reading this book, however, I felt like God was really telling me to just relax and enjoy this in-between time. Enjoy the building blocks of whats to come. Trust my future to him and enjoy my college experience and enjoy taking pictures of river and being late to class. To look at each day as it comes and all of it's craziness and glory.
So right now I may not be traveling the world, or living out some Swoon worthy Hallmark movie. But I am still needed to be present in my day to day life. Grasping onto the pretty sights along the way, and getting through the tough ones. These in-between moments can be made great by having coffee dates with my bible, and loving on the sweet little babes at the daycare. For this is what God is calling me to do right now. And whatever is next will come next.
My names Allison. I am a Christ follower. I write, travel, and I am a current college student from Metro-Detroit. Take your shoes off, and stay awhile.
