This all started back in January with a 19 year old with too much tax returns burning a hole in her pocket. So I bought a plane ticket to California.... The week before I was supposed to go, my Pop got sick and died on June 2. The same day as my bestfriend's wedding. June second was filled with some of the highest highs, and my absolute lowest lows. My heart had been ripped out at the passing of my grandfather, but at the same time filled with unbelievable joy for one of my most favorite people on this entire earth having her best day ever. Then I decided Spokane. Its where Karlee and her new husband live and God basically was saying he had bigger plans than California, and bigger plans than the many other trips I had planned. So my first trip on my own, I flew across the country, from Detroit to Spokane and I would do it a million times again.
While on the island we ventured to the top of the island to Fort Mackinac. This place was originally a British Fort, then taken by the Americans, then back by the British in 1812, then given back to the United States after the war. So the History in this place runs deep and It was so cool to explore the fort with its original structures and see the reenactment of soldiers firing off rifles. This was one of the coolest things on the island with incredible views.
Okay man. I may have found one of my favorite places. Mackinac Island is hands down one of the most beautiful places I have ever been. There was never a dull moment. and the views were never not beautiful. We took a full day to head over to the island and it was such a unique experience. the horses and bikes everywhere, the old homes, and the opportunity to just go put your feet in the water whenever you want.
We got so sun burned, our feet hurt so bad, and we took every opportunity to go sit by the water that we could and as Im writing this I just want nothing more than to go back to the incredibly clear water and pretty rocks off the shore.
