Ever since I was little, I have always been proud to be from Detroit (Or Metro-Detroit). When ever a celebrity was here, or mentioned the city I would flip my hair off my shoulder and have a total confidence boost. A city than was in the gutter and making a serious come back.

When I turned 16, and I had my license and a car ( Thanks dad :) ), And from going to so many different concerts downtown I really got to start my adventures in the city. Instead of being just proud of the city, I got to really embrace it whenever I would go downtown. The crime rate has never affected me seriously so far. Detroit Michigan seems to be on an upswing and as long as you aren't hanging around the bad areas, you're usually safe.

(Dont beleive in the decline in crime go check out this link from Detroit News. http://www.detroitnews.com/story/news/local/metro-detroit/2015/01/03/violent-crimes-decline-detroit/21237927/ )

In Detroit it started off as concerts I would go to. (One direction, Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood, Tigers games, etc.) I was always with someone (I still ALWAYS go with at least one other person) who knew the city well. Then It turned into coffee shop, and now its just finding the best place to people watch and really get a feel for the city.

----------------------The People Mover being one of the BEST places for that. The people mover is a series of two car electric trains that ride around on tracks a few stories high. I have seen some of the coolest people on there. Just the other day an Indian gentleman from Australia was visiting for a wedding and heard awful things about the city so he decided to see for himself. The man hadn't been quite sure where anything was or even what the Tigers were. (Any Michigan person knows how weird that is.) I had talked to him about different places to go and my own experiences in the city when a man with quite a big group got on (all wearing tigers shirts) He asked if I was from the city. Instead of going on about how I wasn't really but I'm there often, I said yes . He had asked about the best stop to get Comerica Park, and about a local bbq joint and also asking different questions on how to get around the city which was more flattering than you know.

-------------------Now with all the good of course there has to be the bad. A couple weeks ago, my friend Karlee and I had gotten valet at the casino before walking around the city and going on the people mover. After a few hours, we had forgotten which valet we had used.... So as we are circling the building trying to figure it out a man, wearing long johns under hi basket ball shorts and two pairs of sunglasses on his messy curly brown hair, This short scrawny guy decides to follow us. He stopped when we stopped. Stood right next to us and was extremely odd. So of course, My first instinct find people, and find someone who could be a relative. We end up finding a valet guy (MUCH more intimidating than I or Karlee) and He had eventually hooked us up with the head of security where a few guards walked out to find the guy, We had our car delivered to us "VIP valet, extreme situation" So once again thank you To Greek Town Casino. You guys are the very best.

Of the places I went to, Here are some of my favorite...
-Renaissance center and the Starbucks inside.
-Astro Coffee
-Great lakes Coffee
-Heart Plaza and the river walk
-People Mover
-Campus martius and all surrounding restaurants and coffee shops surrounding it.
