Why I Love Working At A Daycare.

I love my job. Even more I love the kids. seriously LOVE them. I adore getting to go to work and listen to the silly ramblings of two year olds, and arguments from the three year olds and even the funny stories the 4 and 5 year olds tell. Something about the optimism, and light heartedness of the kids is soothing and honestly hilarious.

I work at a daycare/preschool. I work with kids from 1 1/2 up to 5 years old. If thats not diverse people skills I don't know what is.

Ive gotten called beautiful as a flower, I've had little boys call me their girlfriend, I have little girls hug on me and tell me they love me and want me to braid their hair, or want me to draw them a picture of a pony. (I draw TERRIBLE ponies.) Even a few cry when I leave.

On the other hand, Ive gotten bit, spit at, hit, clawed at, and made kids cry a few times. But thats part of the journey of childcare and teaching is helping kids through those rough spots and the tricky situations.

Today a little boy told me when he grew up he wanted to be ice-cream. Not an Ice cream man, just ice cream. That is one of those little things that make those stressful moments a bit sillier and a bit happier too. Ive even had kids come in and say " I heard you singing that shake it song on the radio" (Shake It Off by, um, Taylor Swift.)

I will be holding a screaming toddler on my lap and (try my best) carry on a conversation with someone else in the room. Or I end up being the person on the floor, making a great seat for the kids. Im the person during the day who is lucky enough to love on them, until they go home to their home at night.

Sometimes I take my job for grant it and make the kids do yoga with me, or play tag so I can get a little work out in, or I sit their and color with them because I REALLY just want to color.  The kids may be learning but I get to hang around little humans who have so much more going on in their heads than they know what to do with. Plus not ONE has mentioned the political issues as we see on Facebook.

Call me crazy. But I would much rather be in a room filled with 15+ 5 year olds singing Taylor Swift and Tracing sunshines.

There's a Israeli Facebook page (in Hebrew) called: "Kids are the best writers", and so they are! this is so great, I want to be an ice cream when I grow up too ;)
